Over the past year I have moved a reasonable number of WordPress sites between different servers and hosting companies (around 10), and I picked up some tips and tricks along the way.

First of if you search around the web for advice on how to move a WordPress blog you’ll probably get a recommendation to backup all the site files and databases, transfer the site files, and then restore the database on the other server.

While this works, I think it’s unnecessarily complicated, especially if you are transferring a small site (i.e., with 300 posts or fewer, and no special sections like a forum). Not to mention that playing around with databases is always tricky, and if you are not tech-savvy you might screw things up.

A better and simpler solution in my opinion is to use the Import/Export feature on WordPress. Here’s the step by step guide:

Login via FTP to your old (i.e., the one you are moving from) WP install and download the whole /wp-conten/t directory.

Login to your old WordPress dashboard and use “Export” function (located under “Tools”). Choose the “All Content” option, to export both posts and pages.

Put a fresh WP install on your new server/hosting plan.

Delete the /wp-content/ folder on your new server, and upload the one you had downloaded from your old server.

If you had changed the “Permalink Structure” on your old server, do that as well on the new one.

Now login to the WordPress dashboard on your new server and use the “Import” function (again under “Tools”) to import all your posts and pages.

Check that everything is working fine by opening the homepage of your new WP install (you can do this using the IP address of your hosting account). If everything is working fine update the nameservers of your domain name to point to your new server).

This method is easier in my opinion, and it has one big advantage: you start with a clean install, meaning that any hacks or compromises you might have had on your old WP install will be gone.

Next week I’ll post about moving larger WordPress sites. Those might not work with this method because your export XML file will be too large, and you might not be able to upload it via the WordPress import feature.

Quicken publisher Intuit introduced a completely free SMS based product in India named Fasal which is specifically targeted to helping farmers determine what to harvest when, and how much the going market price is. Without the benefit of refrigeration in India’s vast and poor agricultural areas a highly perishable crop such as figs can go from too green to eat to perfectly ripe to completely rotten in a matter of a few days.

The data exchanged through Fasal has helped more than half a million Indian farmers fine tune their agricultural procedures so that they can get their crop to the right market at the right time and get the best price for it. Bloggers can take a page from Intuit’s altruism to do good and benefit from an overall aura.

1. Align with a customized fundraising site

Bloggers are accustomed to driving traffic to their own blogs so it might sound like sacrilege to direct readers to external sites, but when it’s to URLs likecrowdrise.com (an online fundraising platform) there’s a definite upside.

You can create your own fundraising pages on the site, select from over a million charities to determine which one you want your readers to support, and share all this information on your social network presence.

2. Assist a local cause

It’s easy to locate in your local area a cause you can help with, whether it’s serving meals to the homeless or holding a bake sale to get new equipment for the high school’s chem lab.

Local initiatives are far less complex to set up than any national appeals so you will be able to organize it all in your spare time with the help of friends and neighbors both on your social networks and face to face. You might not directly get more readers, but the halo of being a good citizen will pay clear dividends for your blog in the long run.

3. Raise funds for a worthwhile charity

There are very few activities that any blogger can participate in which provide such tangible benefits as being identified as a committed raiser of awareness and funds for a charity with a cause which resonates with your readers. Each blog is different and thus the non-profit organization you align with should be relevant to your field.

If your subject is pets, provide assistance to an animal rights or wildlife charity; if you deal with electronics, raise funds to help poverty-stricken Third World recycling workers who live in unbelievably toxic environments; and if your topic is food, adopt a child through a non-profit which provides nutrition in the world’s poorest areas.

4. Develop an app

You don’t have to write a smartphone blog to know that apps are hot, and the development of a specific, basic app is a possibility for any blogger… even if you don’t have a clue about programming.

There are many sites which allow you to contract freelance programmers around the world to work on a contract basis and you can get an reasonable app developed for pocket money. The app shouldn’t directly promote your blog but do some good for someone. Maybe set aside a penny for a charity each time an NFC payment is made, or show on a map where the nearest donation box for clothes and household effects is located.

5. Convert reader activities to $

A site called bettertheworld.com allows anyone to raise money for any given non-profit organization by simply downloading a sidebar and surfing the web. The bar displays relevant ads on the pages and each click puts much-needed cash into the charity’s coffers. Your blog readers and social media followers are navigating all over the web anyway, so why not help convert this activity to help a valid fundraising cause?

Doing good not only makes you feel good, but it helps your readers feel good about your blog as well. Bloggers everywhere are discovering the value of altruism. Will you be the next blog writing adopter of the philosophy of “doing good is good for everyone?”

One of the reasons that a good work of fiction captures our hearts and minds is that it has found a winning formula — one that, despite various tinkering and experiments, is fairly straightforward in its format. Understanding and borrowing from this format can help you generate good, interesting blog content.

Fiction Plot Structure

Nearly all fiction, except the occasional experimental types, follows the same basic pattern:

1 – Status Quo

This is how things are, the basic explanation of the current state of things that sets the stage. Whether implied by the narration and dialog or spelled out clearly in an info dump, this part is important because it provides the context for all that will follow.

2 – Conflict!

This is the starting element of the story, the thing that introduces the departure from the status quo. Something has changed, and for whatever reason someone in the story is opposed to this change, and has to fight it.

3 – Complication/Rising Action

A conflict isn’t much entertainment by itself, particularly if the conflict is as simple as: I wanted to go to the movie, but my tire went flat (the conflict), so I changed it (resolved). Much more entertaining would be: I wanted to go to the movie, but my tire went flat and as I was changing it I realized a dust storm was approaching (complication).

Complications that make the conflict more interesting are the spice of a story, and drive what is called the “rising action,” or the gradual increase of tension as the story moves toward resolution.

4 – Climax

Everything has come to a head. The facts are all laid out, the conflict can get no more complicated and a big definitive choice must be made. This is the most satisfying part of the story, and also the part that is easiest to mess up and let everyone down.

5 – Resolution

Wrapping things up, explaining the new status quo. This part is simple enough, and should follow on naturally from the climax.

Now, how can you borrow from this structure in order to make your blog more interesting? After all, a blog isn’t a fictional piece, it’s driven by facts, right?

Well, just because a story is nonfictional doesn’t mean that it cannot have a narrative. Many of the best true stories are just that, STORIES. Take the story of Woodward and Bernstein as they unraveled the mystery surrounding the Watergate break in. You had death threats, attacks, a top-secret source named after a recent pornographic movie — it was practically a thriller film in its own right, and indeed became the basis of one called All the President’s Men.

Each of these elements can be readily worked into a blog post. Virtually every post out there that deals with a narrative of events has to go into a little bit of information about how things have begun, or how they have led up to the events described in the story. Conflict and complication often play out in such posts by going into the details of who said what, and what other people said against the initial quote or in support of it. If a story has ended, you have the resolution option to work with.

Of course, there is nothing that says you have to include all of these elements in a single post, either. Perhaps the best way is to actually follow a particular story for several posts, be it a few days or a months-long odyssey.

This is best done with news-style developing stories, such as following a court case, or an investigation into something dramatic and revealing. Or it might follow a blogger’s personal journey through a difficult struggle such as returning to school or undergoing therapy of a sort following an accident. The point is, with the narrative spread over a number of posts, you can create that sense of rising action, and highlight the individual elements of a good plot much more effectively and easily than if you try to cram the elements into a single post.

So the next time you have a blog post that you think makes a compelling story, treat it like it IS a story. Identify the arc of the rising action, the conflict and complications and present the narrative in a way that makes the readers want to read it — even makes them feel a bit naughty for trying to read ahead to see what happens next.

Do you blog? If not, you are missing out on a booming business, not to mention the latest fad on the Internet. Everyone is blogging these days – your Grandmother is probably blogging if she has a computer!

Blogging isn’t just fun, it is a business that has really taken off. In fact, many people are making full time livings simply by blogging each and every day. Don’t you wish you could spend thirty minutes or so a day writing an entry for your blog and then go do the things you really enjoy in life? You can if you learn how niche blogging works.

There is blogging – and there is niche blogging. Niche blogging is where the money is. Here is how it works: You do some research to find out what is popular these days. You set up a blog. You find affiliate products for your blog. You write an entry each day. You market your blog. You collect the money. Sounds simple, right?

Well, once you get the hang of it, it is simple – but starting out takes a little more work, and a lot more thought – starting with the research that you need to do. What will your niche be? There are millions of people blogging about millions of topics. The more unique your topic can be the better you will do. Even if you can’t choose a unique topic, the way you blog, or the information you put on your blog should be unique so you can compete with the otherbloggers in your niche.

That part isn’t so simple – finding your niche. Start by finding out what the most popular keyword searches are in the search engines. Do a search for those keywords using RSS feed software or using a search engine – type in the keyword followed by the word blog or RSS. How many people are blogging? If the keywords are popular, there are probably hundreds or thousands of blogs in that niche already. Can you use any of those keywords and create a unique blog? If so, go for it…if not, keep searching.

Think about your own interests. If you are interested in a particular hobby or topic, the chances are good that thousands or even millions of other people are. What is your favorite reality television show? People blog about Survivor, and some of those blogs have a huge following. This goes to show you that even if you do choose a topic that many people are blogging about, you can still make it unique enough to become quite popular.

Setting up your blog is simple. You can get your own webhosting account that includes blogging scripts. These are simple to install, and usually only takes a few clicks of the mouse from the webhosting control panel. You need your own domain name, which can be ordered when you order your hosting account in most cases. However, if you are not tech savvy, you may need to hire someone to do a little tweaking for you. Basically, you need to choose the colors that you want to use for your blog pages and put your affiliate ads on templates. Again, if you don’t know how to do this, you can easily – and cheaply – hire someone to do this for you through a site

Finally, you are ready to start blogging and marketing your blog. Learning to market a blog also takes a little work. Now, jump on the blogging bandwagon and start earning some money!

Are you into blogging? If you are not and if you are into online business, you are losing out on a lot of money that can be made. Blogging is not only the latest fad on the internet but also a large booming online business. Everybody seems to be blogging now-a-days, including the young and not the very young.

Blogging has really sky rocketed as an online business, especially because of the fun element in it. Many people now-a-days are making a living out of blogging, yes, just blogging, believe it or not! There is no reason why you should miss out on it. It’s easy, it’s fun and the best part, it earns money for you without taking too much of your time. Imagine, you can just spend about 30-60 minutes a day making blog entries and use the rest of the time to d what you have always wanted, like pursuing your hobbies, looking after the family or just plain having fun..! It’s as easy as ABC, only you have to learn how blogging works and what Niche Blogging is all about.

Blogging Vs Niche Blogging. Blogging is more fun oriented while Niche blogging is where the money is. How it works: All you need to do is a little research and find out what’s new and popular these days. Second step is to setup a blog. Third, find some products, as per your research to market on your blog. Now, regularly write at least one blog entry everyday to market your blog, and run to the bank to collect the money. Its sounds very simple and believe me it is.

Although the beginning requires a little work and lot of thought, niche blogging is very simple once you get used to it. The thought process is to finalize what your niche would be. The niche you select should be as unique as possible, not possible, I understand since there are already a few million blogs run by a few million people out there on the internet. The uniqueness can be in selecting the niche or it should become apparent in the information or content you put on your blog, so that you are one up on the competition blogging in the same niche as you are.

The hardest part is your thought process is finding your niche. I can help you to can start off by finding the most popular keywords, use the search engines and search for the keyword+”blog” or “RSS”. You can estimate the number of blogs, now try to think and find out if you can make use of these keywords to create your niche blog and compete? If you think you can, you are there, otherwise keep searching until you find a niche for yourself.

Please make sure the niche suits your interests, we really do not want you to lose interest half way, do we? In finding a niche blog that suits your interests, you may come across a million similar blogs. Many of these blogs would have a huge following depending upon the popularity of the niche topic you choose, in which case you can still make the blog unique enough to compete and make money.

The process of setting up the blog is very simple. Most web hosting accounts that are available today come with blogging scripts. These scripts are easy to install and can be done in a few minutes, using the control panel. The domain name you need can be ordered along with the web hosting account. If you think you are not technically competent to do the blog install and tweaking, you can hire a professional to do it for you. Installing a blog is basically a simple process where you need to choose the color schemes and affiliate ads.

The regular work of putting up blog entries is very easy, you are ready to jump on to the niche blogging bandwagon and ride to your bank.

Every day millions of people start blogging. Indeed, the best estimates show that a new blog is created every single second of every day. As if this weren’t enough extra material being added to the Internet, there are of course millions of blogs already in existence. There is a vast amount of new information being added to the Internetevery minute of every day.

Many people have been told that blogging helps increase your visibility on the Internet. That’s true enough, but if you are in business at what cost?

Let’s assume your time costs $100 an hour and that you spend a total of two hours a week adding to your blog. That’s $200 a week or $10,400 a year. That’s the cost of blogging to your business. You really should calculate the amount of time and its value to your business.

Once you’ve found out how much blogging is costing your business, you need to consider how much money it is actually making. How many people boughtitems or services from you as a direct result of your blog? If you don’t know, you need to add tracking codes to your blog links to ensure you can work this out.

Also, add up all the advertising income or affiliate income you’ve generated via your blog. Then look at the total. If it is less than the cost, you’re wasting time and losing money by blogging. Don’t let the fashion for blogging overcome traditional business requirements of profitability. For many people blogging is actually draining their profits, but they are unaware of this because they are not measuring their blog.

Ensure you measure your blog using tracking codes so you can check the real value of your blogging efforts. To do otherwise could seriously affect the profitability of your business.

True enough, blogs can raise your visibility on the Internet and can help boost search engine rankings. But being top of the search results for a particular keyword is of no value to you in business unless being top of the page actually translates into sales. Far too many people chase search engine ranking at the expense of chasing customers.

If you are using a blog to gain search engine ranking, but have not measured the income generated as a result, you could be wasting your time by writing your blog. As ever in business, measurement is essential if you are to do your best. So don’t blog hopefully; measure its real impact.

The internet has plenty of blogging sites and resources. There are thousands of blogging sites and almost a hundred contain topics such as yours. To compete with the thousands of blogging sites, you need to create your own style.

It is always easy to have your own blogging site because blogging sites allow users to set up an account for free. You just need to fill out some forms and you’re done and you can start posting anytime you want without the expense. You can also add related links to your own blogging site.

You do not actually have to be a wizard if you want to create your own blogging site. Most of the people who keep up their own blogs are enthusiasts and common people. If you have your own blogging site, you can converse with someone and learn about their comments.

If you have a blogging site, it will be easy for you to market yourself and make benefits from your products provided that it has all the important facts and that can keep your customer interested.

Setting up your own blogging site means that you are creating a little space on the Internet where you can update and make posts on your own with just about anything that interests you.

Of course, your blogging site will have variety of topics within your specialty. If you want to make money with your own blogging site, you need to have multiple blogs with different topics. If not, your blogs will be too messy if all topics were all posted into one blog.

Now to have a good blogging site, you can post anything from your hobbies to your interests. There are lots of people who can get interested in reading your blogs. If your blog is interesting and can give knowledge to the people, they might visit your blogs more often.

In having a good blogging site, you need to come up with interesting topics. It is important that you know your target and you know what they like to read about.

If you personally love dogs or a certain type of pet, you can write about it and post it in your blogging site. You can include useful information that the readers may be interested about. Blogging sites are a good resource for knowledge and information. If not, what will be its use anyway?

If you have your own blogging site, you can start using Adsense to it. Adsenseprogram can give you enough money and increased traffic out of your blogging site.

If you want to upgrade your own blogging site, you need to have at least 10-15 pages which has relevant contents. You also need to have 5 posts on yourblog.

To apply Adsense in your blogging site, it should have an interface that is easy to use and it has to be clean. All pages must be working and it should not contain broken links or under construction pages. It should not contain popups and animated gifts.

Your blogging site does not need professional designs. It can stay simple because designs are not the main requirement. If you have simple designs and a simple site overall, it will have more chances to get searched in the search engines. Users will also find your site easy to navigate because it is readable and not confusing.

Blogging is a relatively new term that has just begun to make its rounds through the Internet world. You may have asked yourself in the past “what is blogging and why is everyone talking about it?” And the answer is relatively simple. Blogging is nothing more than a website that is updated on a regular basis with the newest entries being displayed at the top. A blog is pretty much an online journal where anybody can go and type their thoughts for the rest of the Internet world to read.

If you like to write, and are looking for a new place to display your work, blogging may be the answer you have been searching for. There are a couple of blogging tips that you should keep in mind before starting. First off, there are many blogging sites that will allow you to have your own web page for free. These free blogging sites can be found through a simple Internet search. Of course, if you want to get more serious about your blog you can register your own domain name and compile your blog their. Another tip to keep in mind is that if you do not want to write about your personal life, blogging for business may still be right for you. There are thousands of businesses that also run blogs as a way for their customers, and prospective customers, to stay informed. Blogging for business has taken off in the small business sector over the past year, and it is surely going to reach a wider audience as word gets around.

If you had to ask yourself “what is blogging”, you probably are not aware that you can make money off of it as well. Many people start blogs as a way tomake money. The best way to do this is by signing up for a Google adsense account. This has been proven as one of the best ways of making money with a blog. When you sign up for an account, Google will place targeted ads on your blog that will earn you money every time somebody visits your site and clicks on them. So, if you have a lot of traffic on your blog you will definitely be able to make some extra money.

There are plenty of blogging tips that are available by searching the Internet. It is important to read these blogging tips so that you know exactly what you are doing, and where to start. Making money with a blog is also very possible if you can garner enough traffic to your site. Even though blogging is still relatively unknown to a lot of the world, it is sure to pick up more steam over the next couple of years and become even more popular.

Are you wondering if Auto Power Blogs is a scam? From my own experience, more than 90% of Internet marketing products are either outright scams or are simply rehashed from other products which I have had experience with before as well. Most of the ‘gurus’ do not help me achieve the results that they promise despite the huge amounts of time and costs that I invest with them, which made me very skeptical about this new auto-blogging concept product as well when I first came across it.

1. Who Created Auto Power Blogs and What Exactly Does it Do?

I did however know one of its owners, Tom Bell, very well since I have found some success with his previous product called Auto Coupon Cash. He also has another best selling product on the digital products marketplace called Total Profit Plan. This new system is all about using the concept of auto-blogging to generate high quality sites that search engines will rank highly for and also provide very good value for its readers.

2. How Has the Auto Power Blogs System Helped Me Thus Far?

<ins><ins></ins></ins>

So far, the tools provided have changed the way I do online marketing, which has certainly become more hands free and automated now as compared to before when I had to do most of the content updating by myself. I would say that the strongest part about this product is the power of the tools to auto-update content, and the content is highly readable and unique unlike some other tools being sold online that generate unreadable garbage.

3. How Do You Generate an Online Income By Following the Auto Power Blogs Strategy?

This product allows its owners to have a 24 hour web business that has the potential to generate profits and commissions at any time once they have set them up. I have also gotten 10 fully coded and highly optimized sites that cover several profitable niches. These sites will get unique content updates every week, which is a really good service in my opinion.

They are also optimized with the purpose to make money, and you can learn more about these elements being placed on the ready-made sites that help drive visitors to where you really want them to go. As a member, I did not have to create any merchant accounts or get into doing any type of customer service. These services are provided by the vendors of the products on the sites, and all I do is send traffic to my sites and simply focus on doing that well to generate profits

No matter how much money you hope to make blogging, the journey starts with one. The single, solitary dollar. Many digital entrepreneurs will tell you the first dollar is the hardest one to make and I happen agree with them. The first dollar of profit helps you realize it really is possible to “make money blogging” no matter how ridiculous that statement might sound to your friends, family, and even yourself if you’ve yet to take this necessary first step.

Now, if you were to take a straw poll of experienced bloggers on how they made their first dollar, a popular response would involve Adsense and my own experience is similar.

My first blog was about a topic I had zero personal interest in: remote control airplanes. I wrote some content, slapped up some Adsense ads, and waited for the profits to trickle in. After just a few short weeks, I had made about $4 and created a steady Adsense income of about $2 – $5 per month. If you want a nearly surefire way to get past the $1 mark this is a great way to do it. Just keep in mind that at this rate it would take me about two years to reach the $100 threshold Google requires to cash out your Adsense account so don’t expect to have this money direct deposited to your checking account anytime soon if you want to follow my lead.

There is a better way.

Although Adsense is the way I made my first buck online, posting content and hoping for a few errant clicks is not the path I advise for beginners today. No sir! I recommend a different technique that I believe will pay dividends down the road by flexing your affiliate marketing muscle and getting used matching up your audience with products they might be interested in buying.

The program I recommend to make your first dollar blogging online is theAmazon Associates program, which is just a fancy name for the online retailer’s affiliate program. Here’s why I’m so bullish on the Amazon program versus Adsense:

1.) You’re making sales, not just clicks. This is an incredibly important concept because if you eventually want to make serious money blogging you’ll need to be able to sell stuff: i.e. your own services, information products, software, or even physical goods.

This is what the biggest bloggers in the industry like ProBlogger‘s Darren Rowse do. Rowse isn’t making a six-to-seven figure income from Adsense alone. He’s recommending selling his own products and affiliate products.

2.) You’ll start identifying products that your audience is willing to pay money for. Being able to figure out what your audience is willing to spend money on is essential when blogging for profit. And fortunately for you, the Amazon Associates program has stuff to sell to almost any market imaginable. Fitness? Check. Dog training? Lots of options there. Relationship help? I think you get the point.

Just about any niche you could want to enter is covered in this affiliate program. In fact, I’d be reluctant to start a blog around a niche where products weren’t offered by Amazon. Odds are nobody wants to spend money there anyway.

3.) Easiest affiliate sales online. I saved the most important benefit of selling through Amazon for last. In my opinion, it’s the easiest affiliate commission you’ll find on the web period.

You see, unlike referring traffic lesser known retailers or even worse ClickBank products, people generally have a warm fuzzy feeling about ordering products through Amazon because of the level of trust for the online retailer and some of your audience probably has an account with Amazon already.

From my experience, if the product you recommend matches the interests of your audience you’ll be able to generate some sales by including affiliate product links within some of your posts.

But don’t take my word for it, give the Amazon Associates program a test drive on your own blog–even if you’ve already made your first dollar blogging.
